Adoptive parents and birth parents can decide together the frequency of contact in an open adoption. Many birth parents would like at least once a year visit or quarterly updates and photos. Some adoptive parents will set up a special Facebook page or invite the birth mother to friend them on Facebook, which is easy for the birth mother.
My son’s birth mother and his stepbrother both are friends of mine on my Facebook page. It’s nice to be able to private message them and can be done in a short period of time.
Think about what you want and how that contact will look. Is it visits? Or maybe you just want updates via email and text. If you don’t really want contact but your mother does, talk to the adoptive parents you have chosen or your adoption coordinator. This can be something you work out together.
